Awards in the ONPA Better Newspaper Contest are given in 25 categories, each in seven divisions. Divisions are defined as follows:
- Division A: Dailies - 25,001 or more
- Division B: Dailies - 10,001 to 25,000
- Division C: Dailies - 10,000 or less
- Division D: Weeklies - 2 or more issues per week
- Division E: Weeklies - 4,001 or more
- Division F: Weeklies - 2,501 to 4,000
- Division G: Weeklies - 2,500 or less
In the winner list that follows, "1st" is a link to an image of the first-prize entry, and "HM" stands for "Honorable Mention".
